Our products are strictly made of vegetable tanned leather coming from the CONSORZIO VERA PELLE ITALIAN VEGETABLE TANNED

There vegetable tanned leather it is a product of animal origin: it is bovine skin that is subjected to tanning, a process capable of stopping its decomposition, making the fibers of which the dermis of the skin itself is made waterproof and rot-proof.

It is defined as "vegetable" because the substances used in tanning (the so-called "tanning agents") are tannins, natural extracts deriving exclusively from plant sources such as chestnut and quebracho wood , gall nuts and Tara pods.

Our leather could be defined as ethical as no animal is killed for the pure purpose of using its skin, as happens with fur. Tanneries recover and recycle waste leather from the food industry. The tanning industry plays a key role because it allows the recovery of waste that would otherwise create serious hygiene problems and require special disposal with high management costs.

Vegetable tanning involves, as already mentioned, the use of tannins derived from trees or flowers , which are able to transmit a warm and natural color to the leather which, over time, ages but does not deteriorate and allows the natural marks of the leather, enhancing its quality. In vegetable tanning you can find leather in its "natural" colour, usually beige or brownish, or even coloured, but in both cases the leather retains its character and is immediately distinguishable from normal leather. The tempering also changes: compared to chrome-tanned leather, the tempering of vegetable leather is generally more rigid and compact , although a lot depends on the recipes and fatliquors used. Finally, vegetable tanned leather is particularly suitable for allergy sufferers: the processing, in fact, is carried out without the use of toxic substances, chemical products or heavy metals.

As regards our buckles, however, they are rigorously produced in Italy with nickel free materials and in compliance with all ecological and anti-allergic regulations.
